5th Wedding Anniversary

July 3, 2009 ~ 5 years ago we were married in Granada Hills, CA. This year we celebrated by driving up to Santa Barbara and taking Isaac to the zoo and the pier. So beautiful.

Isaac slept through most of it...

4 Months Old

He loves his jumper! So cute because his toes barely touch the ground, so he needs a little assistance. But when he gets going... the smiles and giggles that ensue are priceless!

We have hit the 4 month mark! Our little guy is giggling without tickles, looking all around and reaching during tummy time, reaching for everything with both hands when sitting or on his back and gumming ANYTHING he can get his hands on. The doctor said we can start him on rice cereal if we wanted, but she thinks we can hold off another 1-2 months. Isaac is a little weed!! Growing and fitting into 6-9 month clothes.

The stats as of today:
Height: 26.5 inches (93rd percentile)
Weight: 17.3 lbs (88th percentile)

WOW! We are growing a football player or as Eric likes to say, a golfer.

Since his last monthly posting we have celebrated Mother's and Father's Day (its kinda cool having new holidays) and for father's day this past weekend we went to the beach for the first time. He loved putting his toes in the sand, but the wind was a little too much for him, and he was having nothing to do with his hat. We ended up hanging out on the pier and watching the cousins play on the sand.

Soon, he will be rolling and then I have a feeling we are going to have our hands full with a very curious fast mover.

bed time, part 2

We have decided to not discourage the thumb sucking at this time...

Without the swaddle and him having his thumb to soothe himself, our little guy slept last night from 8:30 pm to 7:45 this morning and I didn't get out of bed 1 time! That is a first for me!! Actually had that wake up moment of distress of "is he still breathing?!" because I didn't even hear him stir during the night.

bed time...

sucks.
no literally, Isaac has began to suck his thumb.

Now the heated debate...
let him suck his thumb because he is self soothing himself and therefore able to fall back asleep on his own
OR
swaddle him so he cannot get in the habit of sucking his thumb, attempt the pacifier (which lately he has been refusing) and we are all up at 2:30 in the am trying to go back to sleep (which requires a bottle 99% of the time).

crib time.

  • 5/23/09 1st time sleeping in the crib [at night] 5 hrs then rest of the night in the bassinet
  • 5/26/09 2nd trial night time sleep in the crib 5hrs 45min, woke up for a feeing, cried at 4 am but fell back asleep, woke for another feeding at 6am
  • 5/27/09 3rd night -nap at 7:30 down for bed at 9 pm, woke at 4:45am!! for feeding
  • 6/9/09 1st night slept without a swaddle and didn't have to feed during the night. Able to soothe himself back to sleep with a little help from mommy around 1am and then by himself later in the morning really waking up at 7am (went to bed at 8:30pm)

It's work, but its getting better!! No more bassinet for our little guy.

3 months old

We have hit the 3 month milestone! We can't believe it. Our stats as of today:
  • Height: 24.5 inches
  • Weight: 15 lbs 6 oz

We are cooing and starting to do raspberries, smiling back at you with a small little laugh. Sleeping 5-7 hrs straight with our first trial of the crib last night (5 hrs). I returned to work for the first time this week... there were a lot of tears and worries, but I survived, and so did Isaac. For our 12/52 week birthday, we are all going to the Simi Valley Cajun Festival for some fried food fiesta and zydeco music.

cooing.

We have just learned to gurgle with smiles. They are soft but you can hear them!

Also, we have found ourself in the mirror. The video is taken on the computer so you can see the image being recorded. Watch Isaac make some great eye contact.

The 2 month growth chart...

Lets try this again:

2 months old.

It's official, time is flying and we have an 8 week old baby.
Our little boy is growing so fast... he has doubled his weight since birth and grown 3.5 inches taller.

Here are the latest measurements from our doctors visit:

Weight - 13 lbs! (top 80%) & Height - 23.5 inches (top 70%)

The doctor promptly asked who is tall in the family... oh no! So I guess our son is going to be a tall one :)

Well here is where Eric and I get nerdy:

Isaac experienced his first Passover and ransoming the afikomen and finding his first easter egg (while sleeping! our boy is a genius...) Both families were so generous and just as excited as we were.

growing.

Happy week 5/52!
Isaac is changing before our eyes.
He is now having conversations with us and big smiles. Melts my heart.

1 month old.

Time has flown so fast. I feel like I was just wishing to have this baby and being 1 week late. Now here we are 4 weeks later. Happy 1 month birthday Isaac!
So much has changed including his weight, sleep/eat/diapering schedule, and his facial expressions.
Just these past few days we have figured out the smile, not yet reactive to us, but definitely not just gas smiles. We are also starting to coo a little and recognize mommy and daddy by face and voice. Sleeping is still optional around here.
Here are the most recent pictures of our little guy... he honestly has changed so much!

(2 weeks behind)

We had our 2 week check up with the Pediatrician on March 10th. She definitely passed Eric and my expectations (since she came as a recommendation from work) and all went well. With the original problem of fast weight loss after birth, our little eater gained 1 lb weighing in at 7 lbs 14 ounces!! Unbelievable.
Just a note about how much our lives and conversations have changed since Isaac arrived...
During a feeding, there was a loud sound in our son's diaper. Without skipping a beat, we both looked down at the diaper simultaneously and I say, "Oh good... I have been waiting for the past 3 wet diapers to get that." Which was followed by a minute of uncontrollable laughter. Such conversations have become normal around here. He is totally worth it :)

Birth Day!

After 1 week of waiting past the due date, I was trying everything to induce myself naturally before being medically induced Monday 2/23/09. I had been having Braxton-Hicks type tightening contractions for 2 weeks already but my body couldn't seem to jump start the actual Labor contractions (or so I thought). The night of Friday 2/20/09 around dinner time I began to have uncomfortable contractions and Sunday they became every 8-10 minutes that night leaving me up in the hallway and not in my bed. But the next day they slowed down just a bit so I thought it was just like before - a false alarm. We had some visitors that day who brought some gifts (which ended up being a life savor) and around 7:30 pm the contractions were every 5-7 minutes and pretty strong.  So we decided to head to the hospital thinking the whole time they are going to send me home since I wasn't contracting every 3-5 minutes as we were told to hold out for. We got to the hospital around 8:45 pm, got checked in and checked by the midwife. To hers (she had to check twice) and our amazement I was 8 cm dilated! With barely enough time for medication I was moved to the delivery room.
With awesome Eric and nurse Carrie I pushed for 40 minutes started at 1 am on Monday having our baby boy naturally at 1:43 am.

We are so ecstatic to announce with love:

Isaac James Schneider
Born February 23, 2009 at 1:43 am
6 lbs 13.2 oz and 20.25 inches long

Today is his one week birthday, 7 days old. wow.
He is absolutely a miracle, gorgeous, and our lives will never be the same.

Due Date

So our due date has come... and gone...

Doctor says all looks good, our little guy is just cozy in my belly.
If no baby by 41 weeks, we will be heading to Labor & Delivery on Monday the 23rd to be induced.

Month 9

We have hit the home stretch and are in the 9th month.

Just mild contractions and tightening. Nothing that isn't regular or increasing. Could be tomorrow... could be next week... all I know is we are getting very anxious to meet our son!
